Adjusting the color depth of the graphics adapter or card
The performance of certain computers, notably laptops/notebooks when running the USB Autoscope III can be improved by changing the color depth from 32 or 24 bit color down to 16 bit color.

Should the screen go blank while changing the color depth, no action is necessary. The system will revert to the previous mode within approximately 15 seconds.

How to change the color depth in Windows 98 SE.

Right-click on the desktop;

Select "Properties" in the drop-down menu;

Select "Adjustment";

Select "High Color (16 bit)" press "OK";

Select "Yes" to restart the computer (some programs may not work properly if you choose not to restart);

After restarting, verify your color depth by repeating steps 1-3 above.
How to change the color depth in Windows XP Professional.

Right-click on the desktop;

Select "Properties" in the drop-down menu;

Choose "normal (16 bit)", press "OK";

The screen will briefly go blank. A window will open asking if you want to keep the new settings. Click "Yes" within 15 seconds. There is no need to restart the computer;
